Concussion Testing
What is a concussion?
In simple terms a concussion is a brain injury sustained by a blow either to the head or to the body resulting in traumatic unnatural forces being applied to the brain.
There is a lot of media on the affects of concussions in sports and the risks of returning too early after a concussion has been confirmed.
Athletes in any sport including ringette are at risk of sustaining a concussion. In the spirit of trying to keep our kids safe the PRA encourages parents to take measures to minimze the risk of returning to athletics too early after a concussion. In order to help make an educated decision should an athlete sustain a concussion we recommend concussion baseline testing.
Concussion Baseline Testing:
The purpose of concussion baseline testing is to assess where an athlete is cognitively prior to a potential concussion. This will help the player and parents determine through subsequent testing after an injury when it is safe to return to athletics.
Testing can be done locally through CBI Physiotherapy in Brantford and can be arranged for individuals or teams. If you would like more information you can contact Leanne Agriesti at 519-756-5450 or you can check out their website.
